Damn that CryEngine 3 looks good. Okay, maybe Far Cry 3 won't look quite as good as in this wicked new trailer for the game, but it should still be one of the best-looking games of the year and we'll keep our hopes up that the gameplay proves to be as intense as this trailer is too. Far Cry 3 lands on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on September 4.

^Not sure what that means but I have high hopes for Far Cry 3. The second game was flawed but still really fun and it sounds like Ubisoft has dedicated themselves to fixing all the problems players complained about in the last game.

Holy.... this just jumped up the list of must haves for this year! Kind of fooled me a bit; drunk dudes, get caught, one gets killed than the best friend mans up and fight his way out! EPIC!

It's using an enhanced version of the Far Cry 2 engine so maybe a bit better than that. It'll look good but not like the CG trailer I don't think.

Well, if it is using CryEngine 3 (or some derivative) It's totally possible to reach that standard of quality (with decent hardware, at least). It'd be refreshing to see a game push the limits of an engine, not the current generation of console hardware (even if they're only doing it with foresight to release on the next gen consoles).

Perhaps not movement fidelity, but image quality is. The CryEngine 3 tech demo can be run in real-time on last years GPUs

^Contrary to what I wrote in the OP I don't think they're using CryEngine 3 for this game. Crytek isn't even working on the game it's all Ubisoft.

Are they not? that's a shame.

I figured even though crytek isn't working on it, ubi would still license the engine.
