[PS3] Playstation Move Officially Announced

Sony officially announced their motion controller at E3, but at that point in time it did not have a name. Well, rest assured the wait is over. The controller will officially be called the Playstation Move, as well as the ambitiously named sub controller. At the Game Developers Conference this week, Sony showed off what this controller will be capable of as well as a release window and price point.

The controller works in co-operation with the Playstation Eye, so the bundles will be including one of them, as well as the controller and a piece of software (presumably the "working title" game called Sport Champions).

It functions with the help of a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, coloured sphere and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor. The sensor pin-points the position of the Move, and allows it to easily track whether a movement is slow or fast, small or sweeping.

The controller is estimated to release sometime this Fall, it will be available in a bundle with the Playstation Eye for $99USD. So far 36 companies have signed on to support and develop games for this new controller. Sony also went on to reassure that there will be more than 20 titles available supporting these controls by the end of the 2010 fiscal year.

As mentioned above, no ingenuity whatsoever. At least Microsoft attempted to cover up the fact that they copied Nintendo in the form of a highly advanced camera. I mean, for goodness sake, they even copied the Nunchuck. Hey Sony, want to just make the Wii Remote compatible with your system?

^True, I forgot about that.  Added features still make it fit the bill of being slightly new, however. But still.

So yeah, one big copying cycle.  Even regular controllers are essentially clones of one another.  Tells you how much people's creative aspects, despite having big time jobs, suck.

Now...this is retardedly similar to the Wiimote, but I'm going to reserve judgement until it's released. Who knows, maybe it does different things? Heh...still, I laughed so hard when I saw this.

I didn't laugh at this, as this looks better than the Wii Remote. I laughed at "Sports Champions" that will be releasing around it.

I don't think anyone is laughing at the potential of this controller, just the general lack of ingenuity being displayed here. I really don't have much doubt that both Wave and Natal will be better than WiiMotionPlus, but they could have put more effort into trying something new in an attempt at creating the next big thing.

I'll probably get it but I doubt it will have any more lasting appeal than my Wii did for me. I won't be getting it day one though.
