[Wii] Satoru Iwata Dismissed iPad and 3D Technology
Most of the internet is now aware of Apple’s new(-ish) product, the iPad, and although it hasn’t been receiving much in the way of positive feedback there is one person in particular who is less than impressed by it. Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has pitched his two cents on the iPad topic, and his comment is one of dismissal.

“It was a bigger iPod Touch”, Iwata told Associated Press, adding that the new device offered “no surprises”.

So, who out there is surprised by what Iwata has said? Nintendo themselves being prone to making similar moves (Game Boy Micro, Nintendo DSi LL), does Iwata have any leg to stand on with his opinion?

He also spoke about the recent hype surrounding 3D technology and the constant rumours that Nintendo are readying a high definition re-design of their money-printing Nintendo Wii. When asked about 3D technology he said, “I have doubts whether people will be wearing glasses to play games at home. How is that going to look to other people?” Then when asked about the rumours of the new Wii he said, “I question whether those features would be enough to get people to buy new machines”.

Nothing out of the ordinary for Nintendo here though, and perhaps he does have a point.

"How is [wearing 3D glasses] going to look to other people?"

Blow on the microphone! Swing that condom wearing vibrator!
(Though he's probably referring to what the screen would look like for people not wearing the glasses... which would probably be a blurry mess.)

I agree with the iPad being ridiculous, but really, Iwata just made himself look ignorant with the "It's just a bigger iPod Touch" comment. DSi XL anyone? Well, at least he didn't claim that was revolutionary. Ok, I'll let it slide.

He's got one thing right, Nintendo's current consumers consisting of soccer moms and the non-gamer will need a lot more than HD features to be convinced to buy a new Nintendo console, let alone Wii.
