[PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Silent Hill: Downpour - GlueGun18 - 03-12-2012 07:28 PM ![]() Game Informer - 7/10 - "I don’t regret my time with Silent Hill: Downpour, but mediocrity hung over most of my playthrough like a fog. Vatra Games shows real potential for becoming a developer that can tell great stories, but nurturing one narrative yarn would be better than juggling two ho-hum tales. I left this Silent Hill with the same feeling I have after walking out of most haunted houses near closing time – a little annoyed at having cages lazily rattled at me." GamesRadar - 7/10 - "In spite of its flaws, Silent Hill: Downpour does manage to be smart and imaginative in bursts, although again, most of those bursts are reserved for later in the story. Even so, exploring Silent Hill to find creepy new places to break into can be surprisingly addictive, and it's worth noting that Downpour is surprisingly long by the standards of modern games; our play-through took about 14 hours, and we only completed a few of the side-quests. The actual gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, but as recent Silent Hills go, this is one of the better ones." IGN - 4.5/10 - "The most frustrating thing about Silent Hill Downpour isn’t the lousy combat, dull exploration, or even the technical gaffes. It’s the fact that every now and then while playing through the game’s story, you’ll see signs of brilliance; sunlight hinted from behind the overcast sky. From the Otherworld sequences to the interesting protagonist as well as the way the very town itself is molded to Murphy’s past all make for a game that could’ve really been something special for the series. However, all of the aforementioned issues play their role in making Downpour an unfun, disappointing experience." GameSpot - 7.5/10 - "Silent Hill: Downpour makes some questionable tweaks to the established formula, but those decisions distinguish it from the rest of the series. You may not agree with all of Vatra's choices, but they succeed in making an old town feel new again. And when it's the eighth installment in the series, that is quite an accomplishment." RE: [PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Silent Hill: Downpour - LemonManX - 03-12-2012 08:15 PM Looks like another pitiful entry in a franchise that has four great games. Such a shame to see a franchise that was once so brilliant... become so god-damn awful. RE: [PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Silent Hill: Downpour - GlueGun18 - 03-12-2012 09:07 PM I wouldn't say those reviews suggest that it's "god-damn awful" (other than IGN). Mediocre would probably sum it up nicely. RE: [PS3, X360] Review Roundup - Silent Hill: Downpour - LemonManX - 03-12-2012 09:27 PM No, they wouldn't. But a lot of things that I've seen point towards it. That IGN review sounds to be the most accurate (strange, considering IGN usually aren't). |
