11 million Wiis before the end of Q4 now a reality
With the original figure of 6 million Wiis before the end of Q4 (March 31, 2006), many people questioned if it would even sell out. According to Briefing.com (subscription needed) Nintendo had already produced 2 million Wii consoles during Q3 to avoid shortages for, what was at the time planned to be, a world wide launch. Briefing.com goes on to say that at least 7 million to 9 million more Wiis are planned to be at least built, if not shipped, before the new year. This was announced on the heels of the rumors claiming that the PS3 would be launched later than expected.

None of this has been made official by Nintendo and many people had no idea that Nintendo was producing consoles as early as July, and still has the label of "rumor" all over it. If it is true however, that means that Nintendo could be shipping more units at launch then was originally planned.

pre-ordering a wii would be no problem, but the fact that they're making some many wii's so fast bothers me a little, i hope there are no manufactoring problems or something

yeah youre right no need to pre order if your supply is almost great then your deman. people who didnt get their PS3 will bound to spend thatmoney on the Wii. This means I might not have to gt my Wii initially at launch =|

If you're worried about production quality, pick it up at a major retailer (like Best Buy) and get their in-store 2 year warranty. Its worth it.

I'm finding myself questioning the need for 11 million Wiis. As much a success I hope the Wii becomes, I still have to wonder just how big Nintendo thinks it'll be. I mean, even selling 4 million during this third quarter would have been over the top for a system launch, but hoping to move 11 seems almost too ambitious. I wont argue it really, but if Wiis end up just sitting on shelves gathering dust, I'm going to feel a little disappointed. That sort of thing is just fuel for the gaming media to chew up and spit out.

Still, this could be great news for those of us waiting for a wii. Can anyone confirm this?
