[PS4] Deep Down is still awhile off; isn't related to Dragon's Dogma
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 10:27 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-2556e47f93c4a8f9fca...80928a.jpg]

Remember Deep Down? It was shown during Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal, but we haven't heard anything since then. Many had actively began speculating that the game could end up becoming Dragon's Dogma 2.

That was until Capcom decided to shoot that down.

In a thread on the Capcom it was confirmed by Christian Svensson, senior VP at Capcom, that this wasn't the case.

"No new [Dragon's Dogma] product has been announced so there's nothing I can comment on there," writes Svensson. "For reference [Dead Rising 3] and Deep Down have nothing to do with Dragon's Dogma."

So, while the mysterious Deep Down looks set to showcase the "Panta Rhei" engine on the PlayStation 4 (and probably Xbox One) it will not be related to Dragon's Dogma. Despite the existence of dragon's, the fantasy-styled weapons, and environments.

Svensson also noted that Deep Down is still quite far off, "Ono-san tweeted we'd have it at E3 next year." Does this mean that Capcom might first test the waters for Dragon's Dogma 2 with Deep Down? Or is this just an elaborate ruse?

Thanks Destructoid.

Man, today's been rough for shooting down things I was excited about.

[Multi] Ubisoft plays down Beyond Good & Evil 2 hype once again
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 10:09 AM - No Replies

You may have noticed that an image Pey'j, a character from the cult classic Beyond Good & Evil, appeared on Ubisoft's social media channels. Naturally, this one image sent the internet hype machine into overdrive with many expecting that Ubisoft would finally lift the veil on the long-awaited sequel.

It wasn't such a crazy idea either; especially after Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III. However, in a recent interview with VentureBeat the Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, has taken it upon himself to quelle the hype.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-a9f3924897b2b2a982f...3b40b9.jpg]
"That wasn't meant to be a tease," the CEO told VentureBeat. "It was just a part of our promotion in the run-up to E3 - homaging some of the characters from our past. I think that was maybe misinterpreted."

That's understandable, but surely Ubisoft could have foreseen this happening? All it takes is the smallest trigger and the internet will spin things whatever way they wish. So, will we ever see Beyond Good & Evil 2? Guillemot remained as evasive as ever, neither confirming nor denying it's existence.

"I think the first game was exceptional, and people remember the experience they had, so they would like to see it again," Guillemot said. "We had a period where we had a demo that went out before it was quite ready, so everybody saw something that appealed to them."

So, that isn't a "yes", but it also isn't a "no". I guess we'll just continue living in limbo.

Thanks OXM.

[Multi] Square Enix confirms the existence of a now cancelled Legacy of Kain game
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 09:57 AM - No Replies

Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun.

That name might not resonate with you, but many fans of the Legacy of Kain series saw it as a glimmer of faint hope whilst they traversed a dimly lit tunnel with very few morsels of information to chew on. However, today Square Enix decided to come clean about the mysterious project.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-368084b4d0113fd2193...e9cd5a.jpg]

An eager NeoGAF member has compiled a full list of cancelled Legacy of Kain titles, so if you are a fan of the franchise you might want to check it out, it was inside this thread that someone confirmed the existence and cancellation of Dead Sun.

"I can confirm that Dead Sun was a project which had been in development - but which was cancelled," wrote George Kelion, Square Enix community manager.

"I know it's disappointing to hear about these things out of context, and whilst some of the details released are accurate - some details are not," writes Kelion. "You know game projects can be cancelled for a variety of different reasons and I know it’s very hard to tell from images and info alone, but in the end LoK: Dead Sun just wasn’t the right game, at the right time… but you’ll have to take me at my word on that, I’m afraid."

So, yeah. I guess we'll just have to swallow that. It appears that the recently announced Nosgoth is made up of Dead Sun's extracted multiplayer component.

Dead Sun was reportedly planned for release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360; apparently it was also poised to launch alongside the PlayStation 4. It was cancelled because it wasn't expected to meet sales expectations.

When will we get our conclusion to the Legacy of Kain story?

Thanks for the heads up, Eurogamer, but now I'm nursing a broken heart.

[PC, PS3, X360] Ever wondered why Dark Souls neglects music outside of boss fights?
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 09:41 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-de6ea93897ba20f2afd...3cc65d.jpg]

Well, if you have ever wondered why Dark Souls (and Demon's Souls) decided to skip out on including music outside of the game's boss fights then you'll be happy to hear that Destructoid asked director Yui Tanimura.

"Because this game involves paying so much attention to your environment, to your surroundings, not just visually, but with sound, we felt that the implementation of music outside of the boss battles would get in the way of the actual strategizing throughout the game," Tanimura told Destructoid. "I feel that being able to really immerse yourself and dive deep into the actual world as if you’re the character themselves, we thought the music would get in the way of that. But for the boss battles, the music obviously helps pump up the situation! So that’s basically the behind-the-scenes answer."

The team that created Demon's Souls and the original Demon's Souls really knew what I wanted from a game, this response further solidifies by strong feelings towards these games. Heck, I'm currently listening to a particular track from the Dark Souls soundtrack, Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, as I write this piece.

The silence that surrounds you as you cautiously progress forward does feel appropriate; I'd never even thought to take it into proper consideration until just now. If you'll excuse me, I'd best go boot up some Dark Souls to soak it all in.

Seriously, just give me Dark Souls II; I need it badly.

[PS4, X1] Kingdom Hearts III follows Dream Drop Distance; playable build exists
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 09:17 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-bbcc37dbd3d2dac79e4...5047ec.jpg]

Square Enix must have known their fan base was getting annoyed with them lately; which would explain the decision to reveal both Final Fantasy XV (formerly known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII) and Kingdom Hearts III at E3 this year.

Of course, we're still awhile away from getting our own hands on Kingdom Hearts III so Tetsuya Nomura, the game's director, offered some insight in an interview with Famitsu.

In the interview, Nomura confirms once again that the story in Kingdom Hearts III picks up where Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance left off. The stage is set for the final showdown with Xehanort and Nomura claims that it is the "final episode in the 'Dark Seeker' saga that began with the original KH."

[Image: game-news-image-2013-2b1227f8ced386399fd...008b6b.jpg]
He touches on the game's art direction as well, which is the result of significant trial-and-error instances. The team has been working hard at figuring out which direction to take Kingdom Hearts visually for the new generation of consoles. The team then recalled that the characters once existed as paintbrush art from Disney productions, so this would be the perfect chance to capture that style. "So [chief creative director Takeshi] Nozue went through a series of tests, and the results are the visuals that we refer to in the team as the Kingdom Shader," says Nomura.

Nomura also teases his fans by mentioning that they have a demo version running on the studio's hardware; according to the director the action is "pretty frantic." He also confirms that the third main installment will still include parties consisting of three characters and that NPCs (and other characters) will join the fight in each individual world, similar to how you could have Final Fantasy X's Auron in your party during your time at Olympus in Kingdom Hearts II, which will add another level of action. Nomura also touts that the game will feature somewhat more "intricate" enemy AI that will be reflected by the gameplay. Sora will be able to interact with particular enemies similar to how he has been able to do in Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.

Additionally, the team is working very closely with the Final Fantasy XV team with Nomura saying that they are, "constantly honing their work at this point in development. Even though KH3 is still pretty early in development, it's already producing some great scenes in Square Enix's internal conferences."

Nomura acknowledges that we will be facing a long wait before Kingdom Hearts III releases, but he is eager to give the game some more time in the spotlight. He's hoping to feature it at either the Tokyo Game Show this September, the Disney-orientated D23 Expo Japan even in October, or both. I know that I'm personally hoping that he can make both events happen, but we'll have to wait and see.

Here's the trailer from Sony's press conference at E3 last week.

Thanks Polygon.

[PC] Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's PC version will arrive after console versions
Posted by: LemonManX - Today 08:35 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-64288a194b1dde2c24a...683a24.jpg]

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will follow a trend set by previous Assassin's Creed titles by releasing on PC a few weeks after the console version according to an interview with Ashraf Ismail, Ubisoft game director, conducted by ElderGeek.

"We're working hard on the PC version," Ismail claims. "It's one of the main platforms we work on in the office. For our PC fans, don't worry. The game on PC looks phenomenal."

Last September Ubisoft announced that they wouldn't be including DRM in their future PC releases; so at least that won't be an issue here.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will release on PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 this October and will launch alongside the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this November (unless Sony decide to launch later).

Thanks Gamespot.

[E3'13, Multi] Fez 2 is coming; here's a trailer that tells you nothing
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-17-2013 09:59 AM - No Replies

I'm excited that Fez is getting a sequel; the first one definitely deserved the praise it got. Additionally, after watching Indie Game: The Movie I had much more respect for the work that Phil Fish did on the game.

Of course, I waited until it came out on PC to play it; so you can make of that what you will.

What platforms will the newly announced sequel come to? Who knows! More important, how long will we have to wait and will the road be just as bumpy?

Fez 2 is coming eventually to some platforms.

[Wii U] EA jump on board the 'Wii U needs to sell more hardware' bandwagon
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-17-2013 09:35 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-ce6d950518e989ac2fa...4f852f.jpg]

Last week Ubisoft talked about the Wii U's lack of impact as far as hardware sales go; EA also decided to weigh in on the issue when quizzed by Joystiq.

It all came about when Joystiq asked Nintendo of America's head of corporate communications, Charlie Scibetta, said that they'd need to ask EA concerning the future of their development plans for Nintendo's console.

However, Frank Gibeau, EA Labels President, offered a response that sounded all too familiar.

"Look, the only thing they can do to fix it is to sell more boxes. We're a rational company, we go where the audience is. We publish games where we think we can make a great game and hit a big audience, and make money," Gibeau told Joystiq. "That's why we're here, that's why we have an industry."

A pretty blunt answer if you ask me, but one that certainly sounds familiar to Ubisoft's. The core difference? Ubisoft is still offering support for the Wii U this holiday season; EA reflected upon its past support when considering future support.

"The Wii U, we shipped four games. We shipped Madden, FIFA, Need for Speed and Mass Effect. In fact, the Need for Speed we shipped 60 days ago had a pretty good Metacritic. It was a good game. It wasn't a schlocky port, we actually put extra effort into getting everything to work. And it's just not selling because there's no boxes."

Sure, EA. I'm sure the decision to release no future DLC for Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Wii U didn't affect those low sales. Who would buy a specific version of the game if it wouldn't be receiving future support? Don't even get me started on why Mass Effect 3 wasn't successful on the Wii U...

[PC] Are Ubisoft representatives gauging PC user interest for a port of The Division?
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-17-2013 09:20 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-4a0ce827a37c008e6b2...b15551.jpg]

An interesting report has popped up over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun that has revealed a particular petition has surfaced online pushing for Ubisoft's newly announcing shooter, The Division, to make the leap to PC.

What makes this even more interesting? RPS seems to be hearing reports that Ubisoft representatives are encouraging PC gamers to sign the petition if they want to see the game be released on their platform of choice.

The game was revealed at E3 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but when gamers saw no mention of PC; many were left scratching their head. A PC release seems like the logical decision at this point, so why are Ubisoft dancing around the idea?

What do you think? Will Ubisoft release The Division on PC? It's worth remembering that this is a publisher who is eager to release their games across as many different platforms as possible, so a PC release is certainly not out of the question!

[Wii U, 3DS] Single-player mode to be different in new Super Smash Bros. games
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-17-2013 08:58 AM - Replies (2)

Do you remember the Subspace Emissary mode in Super Smash Bros. Brawl? It aimed for some pretty lofty heights, but managed to fall much shorter than many had hoped.

Sakurai confirmed in an interview with Polygon that the single-player mode in the new Super Smash Bros. titles for both Wii U and 3DS would be different this time around.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-d474343c9fea505388f...f5a8b5.jpg]
"There will be a single player [campaign], but it won't be like the [Subspace Emissary] mode in Brawl," Sakurai told Polygon. "One thing we can do with the Smash Bros. series that's unique to us - because we have all these different disparate characters brought together - is we can create that sort of fan-movie experience as a special gift. But now those things are posted on the internet, it doesn't really become a gift for people who played the game."

So, what could this mean? Will Sakurai turn away from the cinematics that were littered throughout Brawl's Subspace Emissary? Personally, I hope he doesn't because they were one of the highlights. There were some pretty fun moments scattered throughout those scenes; my main issue with the Subspace was the limited and repetitive gameplay that it offered. I hope that Sakurai is willing to stick with it and find a comfortable zone for the games to slot into.

Additionally, Sakurai also commented on whether or not DLC was currently being planned for Super Smash Bros.. "At this point we have no plans for downloadable content," Sakurai explained. "Our goal is to have a Smash Bros. that has enough content, in terms of characters and stages, and that's where all our energies are focused."

Would you like to see DLC in future Super Smash Bros. releases? Or would you rather the game's roster of characters and stages be limited to what they've done for launch?

[iOS] XCOM: Enemy Unknown brings strategic action to your iOS device this week
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-17-2013 08:29 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-b8b87d8570e12ccb226...f1383f.jpg]

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a fantastic game, and before Fire Emblem: Awakening it was my favourite turn-based strategy game, so you'll forgive me if I feel compelled to scream from the rooftops that iOS devices will receive a port of the game this week.

Considering that the game's iOS release is nearly a direct port of the game's PC version, the $20 (£13.99/€17.99) price tag is pretty understandable. It will be available for purchase on the 20th of June.

GameSpot also report that one feature that won't be available initially is the game's head-to-head multiplayer; don't stress though as it will be made available at a "later date" as a free update.

That's a pretty good deal!

It's also free for PlayStation Plus users in Europe at the moment.

[E3'13, Wii U] Nintendo explains camera control in Super Mario 3D World
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-16-2013 09:31 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-bcf360148047c0c346f...c63013.jpg]

I wasn't overly thrilled with Nintendo's showing, but they still showed me stuff that looked more interesting than most of the industry's shooter hogwash.

However, one game that stuck out to me (for all the wrong reasons, mind you) was Super Mario 3D World. A game that seemingly looked as though it was being crafted for the 3DS until Nintendo realised they needed a Mario game. Of course, that's just speculation but honestly I find myself hoping it is true. Because if this is what Nintendo crafted from the ground up for a Wii U as a 3D Mario then I'm underwhelmed.

Either way, in this short video the game's producer, Koichi Hayashida, demonstrates how you can control the camera in Super Mario 3D World.

One question Nintendo; can we still use that second stick? Because I'm not incredibly keen on this particular variety of camera control.

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Nintendo's game ownership policy operates like a toy company
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-16-2013 09:12 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-bcc6603c02c695f0c6b...7b729d.jpg]

As the world still processes Sony's PR stunt, in which they essentially "won" E3 (according to most corners of the internet) by confirming that their console wouldn't be tossing consumer rights to the wayside, we all seem to be forgetting that Nintendo are also not going to be implementing DRM anytime soon.

At E3, Nintendo's Shigero Miyamoto explained to Eurogamer why the Japanese console manufacturer and publisher would not be imposing any restrictions on used games.

"What's really important is viewing Nintendo almost like a toy company where we're making these things for people to play with," Miyamoto explained. "As a consumer you want to be able to keep those things for a long time and have those things from your youth that you can go back and experience again."

He's right there, I still have functional NES and SNES consoles that I used to remind myself of the less cynical days that video games enjoyed. Whilst I applaud Sony for their decision; let's not forget they aren't the only guys not doing it.

"I really want to retain that product nature of the games that we create so that people can do that and have that experience. To me that's something that's very important about entertainment itself. So from the approach of continuing to create things that are entertaining for people, that's an important direction for me that I want to maintain."

As soon as Nintendo integrate some sort of universal user account system to allow you to own digital content outside of that specific piece of hardware, we'll all be much happier. But for now it's nice to know that Nintendo won't be venturing down the dark road that Microsoft is trudging down.

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Retro might return to Metroid; currently focused on Donkey Kong
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-14-2013 01:50 AM - No Replies

Are you among those who were disappointed to find out that Retro's top secret game was another Donkey Kong Country? If so, you aren't alone. I'm also still processing the announcement. I am still excited for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, but I can't help but wonder why it was decided that another platformer would grace the Wii U only months after New Super Luigi U and Rayman: Legends, as well as a month before Super Mario 3D World.

Michael Kelbaugh, president of Retro Studios, told IGN's Richard George about Retro's decision to work on another Donkey Kong game instead of a new Metroid.

[Image: game-news-image-2013-10b1b9cbbb2e325adef...4c3574.jpg]
"Well, we love Metroid. We love Metroid Prime and we always will. It was a big part of our studio, the culture of the studio. The majority of that team is still at Retro," said Kelbaugh. "When we finished with DK, we still had a lot of really cool ideas. That, in combination with what the Wii U could do, we really wanted to continue with that. Again, Retro Studios loves Metroid. We might do another someday. But we really enjoyed working with DK as well."

Someday? That's isn't quite soon enough for this Metroid fan, however I can appreciate Retro's dedication to Donkey Kong. The announcement, coupled with the return of Dixie Kong, was certainly a surprise but that could also have been because Nintendo told us what else they'd be bringing to E3 a month before the actual event. Many fans still speculate that Retro could be working on a Metroid title in secret whilst they create Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeza but Michael Kelbaugh has confirmed that simply isn't the case.

The team at Retro do a game roughly every two or three years according to Kelbaugh; in the first year they help out other Nintendo studios with their projects. For example, during the first year of this project Retro helped out Monster Games with the wonderful Mario Kart 7 for 3DS.

"We really feel strongly about helping out Nintendo as a whole, so if we have time, we'll do that," said Kelbaugh. "Do we have the bandwidth to do two major projects at once? I don't think so. A big project and a little project at the same time, we can do that."

If Retro isn't working on a Metroid game then who is? Currently, the answer appears to be nobody. Nintendo's Kensuke Tanabe, an Executive Officer at Nintendo and producer for Retro Studios' releases, offered a morsel for Metroid fans to chew on.

"Basically I'm thinking of, not just Samus, but how we can expand the whole Samus universe," Tanabe said. "You remember Metroid Prime Hunters. I'm thinking about things like how we could make that go our further, with all these different bounty hunters as well."

Whenever someone mentions Metroid Prime Hunters I convulse slightly; the game wasn't awful but it was certainly the franchise's most FPS-like entry to date (yes, even compared to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. However, bounty hunters could be back in future installments (post-Fusion) and pursuing Samus Aran after she disobeyed her directive to preserve the research station and the X.

I could just be grasping at straws though; I need a new Metroid game.

[E3'13, Wii U, 3DS] Super Smash Bros. won't include many third party characters
Posted by: LemonManX - 06-14-2013 01:05 AM - No Replies

[Image: game-news-image-2013-48ef91ecbf4a1c1b5e0...4f6030.jpg]

Since Super Smash Bros. Brawl welcomed Sonic and Snake into the roster fans around the world have been speculating what other third party characters might be introduced in future entries. At E3, accompanying the announcement of the new Super Smash Bros. titles, Sakurai and Nintendo made a large number of fans happy by confirming that Mega Man would be joining the cast.

IGN had a chat to Masahiro Sakurai about what other third party characters to expect and whether or not Namco Bandai characters would receive special preference. Sakurai's response was a relatively blunt, "no."

"Just because the game is being cooperatively developed with Namco Bandai involved, that doesn't at all mean that they'd be given any special consideration for having characters in the game," Sakurai told IGN. "Smash Bros. can still be considered as an all-star collection of Nintendo characters. Just like with Mega Man or any other third-party character, it would have to be a very special situation."

This should come as a relief to many people; I know I wouldn't have really wanted any Tekken characters in the game. Having said that, I'd be okay with Namco Bandai and Sakurai deciding to include a character from the popular Tales franchise. However, Sakurai also stressed to IGN that adding in a third party characters isn't as easy as some perceive it to be.

"Adding third-party characters should be considered a very special case. In the last game, when we added Sonic and Snake, there were lots of different hoops to jump through as far as getting approvals and making sure all the parties involved were happy with the way things went. You can consider it a very special circumstance for that to happen," Sakurai said. "Even in cases like adding Pokémon characters, there are a lot of parties involved and there's a lot of wrangling. It's much tougher than people can imagine. I know lots of people have requests and their own ideas about third-party characters that would work, but I want people to understand that adding a third-party characters like Mega Man is a very special situations."

So, what do you think? I'm pretty happy to hear that Sakurai is still treating third party characters as a special situation; the last thing we need is more third party characters stealing away spots that belong to Nintendo characters.

I could just be saying that because he isn't ready to confirm Ridley yet; you'll never be able to prove it!!

What third-party characters would you like to see included along Mega Man? It can be assumed that Sonic will be back considering that Nintendo have worked out a deal to handle the publishing duties on some exclusive Sonic games. Snake, on the other hand, is almost definitely going to sit this one out; especially considering that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, disappointingly, isn't coming to the Wii U.

  [E3'13, PS4] Respawn isn't ruling out Titanfall's release on PlayStation 4

At E3 Respawn unveiled their first official project since forming, Titanfall, for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. However, it appears that the game isn't destined to stay a Microsoft exclusive if things pan out in a positive manner.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Respawn's lead artist for Titanfall, Joel Emslie, who walked out of Infinity Ward with Vince Zampella and Jason West when they were fired, revealed they want as many people to play Titanfall as possible.

"When you boil it down, we would love to be everywhere, but we're just starting out," Emslie explained. "It comes down to quality, not quantity. We have a fantastic relationship with Microsoft. It just boiled down to, okay, how can we hit this as hard as [we] can and get it on as many platforms as possible and deliver the quality, the 60 hertz, out of the gate? That was the goal."

It makes sense, Titanfall is Respawn's first project and it is definitely setting its sight on some lofty heights. It looks great and carries the weight of expectation being the first project from the minds behind Modern Warfare.

But when he was asked whether or not PlayStation players will get a chance to play Titanfall he offered the following response:

"It's definitely not out of the question," said Emslie. "We have a huge appreciation for fans. Coming out and showing it to everybody, we're super nervous and wanted to make sure everybody loved it. We love all our fans, whatever console they support."

"So yeah. We want to make everybody happy, but this is where we're at right now."

Later on Patrick Söderlund, EA Games Label boss, confirms that this is the result of a "business relationship" between Electronic Arts, Respawn, and Microsoft. "There are always reasons, but we can't go into them." They are currently "proud to be exclusive to Xbox."

I suspect if the game is a runaway success we'll hear more about other platforms, until then you'll have to keep an eye out for further details.

[E3'13, X360, X1] Microsoft has an option for gamers without internet; the Xbox 360

Microsoft's Don Mattrick has addressed the issue that many gamers have with the Xbox One; that issue being the console's requirement to connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours. In an interview with GameTrailers filmed prior to the big E3 2013 press conference Mattrick offered a solution to the problem that many are expecting to have.

"Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity; it's called Xbox 360," said Don Mattrick. "If you have zero access to the internet, that is an offline device."

What do you think? Is your solution to lacking a reliable internet connection picking up a Xbox 360? Or will you just go with Sony's comparably relaxed PlayStation 4?

Don Mattrick expected blowback after Microsoft announced their internet requirement, but he maintains that they've made the right call.

"Seriously, when I read blogs and thought about who's really the most impacted there was a person who said, 'Hey I'm on a nuclear sub.' And I don't even know what it means to be on a nuclear sub but I've got to imagine it's not easy to get an internet connection. But hey, I can empathise; if I was on a sub I'd be disappointed."

"It's a service-based world, if you think about things and how they get better with an internet connect, that's a design choice we've made," Mattrick added. "I think people will appreciate it... We did a lot of testing, a lot of consumer research and I think we made a good choice."

No internet? You can buy an Xbox 360 or you can pick up either a PlayStation 4 and Wii U. It's your choice. Mattrick appreciates our passion but believes that gamers are "imagining outcomes that are worse than what we believe it's going to be in the real world."
