Hello, all.

I'm wanting to invite you to an interesting little project brought to my attention.

This originally started as a "Race to the Finish" style event where we would, as a community, select a game and race through it and the first one to reach the end would win a prize - it probably would've been like a WiiPoints card, or something. That idea was scratched for this more open-minded and friendly event.

In this, the community would choose a system a game for that system, and we'd play through it together. May it be an obscure title that you think deserves a chance, or a popular one that may or may not hold up to today's expectations. This would give some people the opportunity to play games that they never have before, and would show others how well and old game would hold against today's standards, as previously mentioned. When we reach the end of our game, we'd simply discuss the game itself, talking about how it could have been done better. Think of it as a forum-wide review session, just without a score scheme.

Before the selection's done, I'd like to ask at least two or three other people (with mics) to save their opinions and join in a short podcast-like roundtable discussion. Let your voice be heard. Literally!

So, do you guys have any interest in joining me in this little project? If so, you have any particular systems or games that you'd like to touch on first? We'd need a reasonable date to actually start the game so that we don't take away from anybody's time to actually join us in the discussion.

Short reminder: Any game would be a good start right now.

Below is a list we've played or are currently playing. If you've got something to say about the game, we certainly won't discourage you from bumping any of the following (linked) threads if they're old.

Played Games of the Past
Here's a list of games that you have come up with so far. Any objections to any games that are or aren't included in the list?

Also, a note (and a shameless bump), this is in no way a "get to it right away" thing.

This is just a placeholder to get things rolling so we have everything set up (list of games, systems) when the time is right, not to mention you'll need the game(s) first.

Suggest away!
I think WiiWare/VC is a good place to start with this. But my choice of games sometimes are a little hard to beat, DAMN YOU CLASSIC SHOOTERS!
Super Metroid.
Mario 64 (Race to the Finish)
Super Smash Bros (Race to unlock everyone)
Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow (Beat the Elite Four)
?Tetris DS (Finish the Marathon in the shortest time, give a week or so for results)
Final Fantasy Games (Beat the final boss)
Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 & 3 (Beat Bowser)
Zelda 1, 2, OoT, MM (Beat Gannon)
Contra (Get to the end)
Metal Slug (Get to the end)
Doom/Duke Nukem 3D/Castle Wolfenstein/Quake/Unreal (Beat the game)
I really like this idea though.

I'd also nominate Fire Emblem 6 if people can get their hands on it.
This is a pretty awesome idea, Dume! It's like a book club, with fewer ladies gossiping and more people actually reading (or playing as the case may be) the assigned material!

I have a mic and would love to join your podcast...but you'd have to tell me what I'd have to do to join in--I'm not so savvy to that Toungue

As for game suggestions:

CHRONO TRIGGER (sorry, I had to...)
Super Mario RPG
Breath of Fire I or II (are they on VC? If not, they were ported to the GBA)
Secret of Mana
Donkey Kong Country 2 (best one IMO)
One of the earlier Phantasy Star games would be sweet, especially since some of them are now on that new Sega collection
Jet Grind Radio (is that old enough to count?)

That's a pretty SNES heavy/RPG loaded list, but that's just off the top of my head. Let me think a while and I'll have more for you
Woah! Thanks for the feedback, guys! I'm glad this is actually turning out.

A lost of these games I have yet to play, so I'm glad I'm giving this some time so I can get a few of these together.
Oooh! Here's a good sleeper we should play:

Space Station: Silicon Valley for the N64

Might be hard to track down, but that game was AMAZING.
Definitely. I want to fast track this idea, due to awesome.
I actually would like to do Final Fantasy I first, to be honest. I think if I got Dawn of Souls for the GBA, I'd be set.

If not. Super Metroid.
I have Dawn of Souls laying around somewhere. I didn't really enjoy FF-1 very much but I suppose I could give it another chance.
The original Mario games is an easy go thanks to Super Mario Allstars (Which any self-respecting SNES owner should have).
But to makes things more fun, no whistles for #3. d:

Jerk.
Holy crap, awesome idea! I love it. We must get this on a roll to AMAZING!

I'm not sure how much I'd be able to participate, due to my ah-MAZING parents (won't let me buy games all that much), but that doesn't mean I can't try. Smile
If I can participate (meaning I have said game we're playing), I'd be more than willing to also be in the podcast-like discussion.

Off the top of my head, Super Metroid, Super Mario 3 (Yes, no flutes! The whole game is SO MUCH better than cheating), Super Mario 64 (again, no cheating for those of you who know how...), and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars might be good games to start with.
This is the list of games I think I'll allow (in alphabetical order, no preference) as of now, unless we have a higher demands for any other titles mentioned. This list will obviously be updated along with it being on the first post.
    Chrono Trigger
    Donkey Kong Country 2
    Final Fantasy (series)
    Fire Emblem (6/series?)
    The Legend of Zelda (series)
    Pokémon (series)
    Super Mario 64
    Super Mario Bros. (1, 2 and 3)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
    Super Metroid

Any objections to the games I've excluded? Remember this isn't a race-to-the-finish thing we're doing, it's just like noodleboy said, it's a book club for retro games!

We'll also have to create a poll sometime later on, obviously.
FE would take a long time.
What does that matter?
I'm not complaining, just putting it out there. Some peeps are busy. :3
of all the ones you pick FE?

the whole Final Fantasy series would take decades! :3
