Even though Final Fantasy XIII has only just released in the Western world, Kitase and Toriyama are being quizzed about their plans for the future of the franchise by WriteAboutGames whilst attending a French launch event. In particular they were asked about doing a direct sequel to the latest goliath of the series, they simply replied that they would have to wait and see how it performs in the West.

Naturally with a response like that, they were pressed further and the following was squeezed out of them, "In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn't very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built."

This can be taken with a handful of salt, I'm sure many of us remember a certain direct sequel that released on Playstation 2. For some of us, the nightmares of Final Fantasy X-2 will never cease.
